1. Registration is open for the 2011 California Urban and Community Forest Conference – September 15-17 in Palo Alto!

We look forward to seeing you at the 2011 Annual California Urban and Community Forest Conference!

The conference will take place September 15-17, 2011 at the Crowne Plaza Cabana Hotel in Palo Alto, California.

California Urban Forests Council and California ReLeaf have partnered to make this a great event with participation from nonprofits, cities, state leaders, and more! We’re bringing in an impressive line-up of speakers and look forward to throwing a great party on Friday, September 16 at a local park where we will honor the winners of the 2011 California Urban Forestry awards.

Join us for education, networking and a great time (as well as continuing education credits for arborists and urban foresters). We’ll discuss urban forestry and public health, options to maintain urban forests during recessions, fruit trees in the cities, a hands-on tour of pruning methods, options for securing funding, and more!

Please see http://www.caufc.org/Annual%20Conference for the agenda, registration information, and more. See you there!

. Nominations are open for the 2011 California Urban Forestry Awards

Each year the California Urban Forests Council honors leaders, programs and projects that demonstrate innovation and inspiration in urban forestry.

We’re requesting your nominations of urban forestry heroes whose work in the 2010 calendar year deserves to be celebrated and honored at the 2011 Annual Urban and Community Forestry Conference (September 15-17 in Palo Alto, California). These are the folks that bring urban forestry to our communities, improving air quality, communities, stormwater management, creating jobs, cooling hot urban centers, providing beautiful views, and more!

Awards will honor winners of the following categories:

·         Best Urban Forestry Program

·         Durrell Maughn Founders Award (awarded to an individual, organization, or agency that has done the most in the past year to advance Urban Forestry Education in California.)

·         Urban Forestry Volunteer of the Year

·         Community Building with Trees

·         Outstanding Urban Forestry Project of the Year

Additional details and the nomination form are attached to this message.

We look forward to reviewing your nominations and to honoring urban forestry leaders that will bring inspiration to us all!

The nomination deadline is August 15, 2011. Please spread the word and help us give your community’s innovative leaders the recognition they deserve! Nomination materials are also available at http://www.caufc.org/Annual%20Conference

2. Participate in the 2011 Silent Auction to raise support for urban forestry!

The Silent Auction is a tradition at the annual California Urban and Community Forest Conference, and we’re looking forward to your participation to make this year’s a thriving success!

We invite you donate an item towards the silent auction for a fun way to raise funds for urban forestry programs throughout California.

Items large and small of any value are welcome! Now is a great time to be creative and think of a unique and engaging item to contribute. Your contribution will help the fun grow, and help us towards a goal of raising $6,000 for this event. Please see the attached nomination form, which is also available at http://www.caufc.org/Annual%20Conference.

We look forward to your participation!
